AUTOMATED DIAMETER
MEASUREMENT
|
Task |
In a drawing die production
facility the need for diameter testing, sorting, and documentation is
paramount and time consuming. Diameter testing can be costly in terms of
time, labour costs and test equipment. The reasons for improving this process
can be to increase production volume, reduce production cost and to improve
the quality of the finished product. |

|
Solution |
Conoptica delivers an Automatic
Die Feeder & Sorter (ADFS) which combines with an measurement instrument
to form a highly efficient unit. Dies are fed one by one into the instrument
from input tubes, automatically measured, and then sorted according to
measurement results. The ADFS can be combined with the Conoptica measurement
systems CU4 or CU5 for diameter and ovality measurement, or with a CU10 if
the profile and bearing should also be tested. |

|
Benefit |
A Conoptica measurement system will in itself give substantial
efficiency gains compared to other methods. Automating with ADFS will
increase these gains by minimizing human error and freeing up personnel
resources for other tasks. |

Step by Step |
Typically a batch of dies is processed like this: ·
Fill
input tubes with dies and insert them in the ADFS ·
Choose
sorting options ·
Click
the start button ·
While
the dies are measured and sorted, and data are automatically saved in a
spreadsheet and/or database, the operator is free to prepare the next batch
of tubes or to perform other tasks. |
